'Level 0' is the highest floor. This is the entrance level, with its floor more or less at street level, and is the timber frame element of the construction. The end of the car port provides a covered porch to the main entrance door. A good-sized entrance hall gives access to a cloakroom, has a generous coats cupboard, and also leads to the useful Utility Room, which has a door a small courtyard housing a bin store and a drying area. The Dining and Living areas give access to a spacious deck, sheltered to the north and with views to the loch to the west. The Kitchen is self-contained, but not cut off from the rest of the living space. The rooms labelled 'Office' and 'Studio' could of course be given over to other uses, including guest accommodation. The small 'Level 1' plan shows a room in the east end of the roof. Apart from providing storage space, this room, accessed via a loft ladder, will also be an important part of the heat recovery system - see 'An Eco Project'.
'Level minus 1' is the bedroom floor, and is created by the three shipping containers and the space between them. The three containers are indicated by the coloured hatching. Although these containers are only 2.4 metres wide, more spacious rooms are created by cutting openings in the containers. 2.4 metres is in fact the perfect width to accommodate a double bed with bedside tables each side! All three bedrooms are a generous double size, with built-in wardrobes. The Master Bedroom has views to both the south and the west, and en suite facilities. 'Level minus 2' shows the open storage/ work area which forms the end of the platform on which the shipping containers sit. See 'Design Strategy' Phase 1.
The accommodation is designed to be both interesting and practical, with useful features like the car port and its direct access to the house, the utility room giving indoor drying facilities, and plentiful storage.
